The RBUSD Gifted and Talented

The RBUSD Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) Program aims to make sure those students who demonstrate outstanding ability or potential are given the opportunity to make the most of their talents and capabilities. The GATE program provides high end learning opportunities which allow students to prosper in stimulating academic and social environments.

Winter Enrichment Classes

We are very excited to be offering three GATE enrichment classes at Adams:

  • Class Title:  Inventing Your Own Inventions
    • Instructor:  Eric Buchen                                                
    • Class Day:  Tuesday
    • Time:           3:00 – 4:00 pm                                          
    • Location:    Music Room
    • Description:  Students will explore the process of invention by learning about some of America’s most successful inventors and the steps they took to get a patent (and in most cases, become rich). We will also brainstorm, design, and build our own practical inventions.
  • Class Title:  Bubble-ology:  Great Explorations in Math and Science
    • Instructor:   Ramona Pal                                               
    • Class Day:   Wednesday
    • Time:            3:00 – 4:00 pm                                           
    • Location:     Room 8
    • Description:  This class combines fun with intense enjoyment with an exploration of important concepts in chemistry and physics through imaginative experiments with soap bubbles.
  • Class Title:  One Hour Mysteries
    • Instructor:   Amy Kraft                                                
    • Class Day:   Thursday
    • Time:            3:00 – 4:00 pm                                           
    • Location:     Room 29
    • Description:  Students will work collaboratively to solve mysteries using logic, deductive reasoning and problem-solving skills.

Fall Enrichment Classes

We are very excited to be offering three GATE enrichment classes at Adams:

  • Class Title:  Math is Not a Spectator Sport
    • Instructor:    Ramona Pal                                               
    • Class Day:   Wednesday
    • Time:           3:00 – 4:00 pm                                           
    • Location:     Room 8
    • Description: Students will explore strategies to solve and create problems and puzzles in involving logic, spatial acuity, and mathematical deduction, and lateral thinking.  These exercises will prepare students to participate in mini-class competitions.
  • Class Title:  Edible Words
    • Instructor:    Kellie Ma                                                      
    • Class Day:   Thursday
    • Time:           3:00 – 4:00 pm                                           
    • Location:     Room 2
    • Description: Edible Words inspires students to write creatively using their senses to bring words to life on paper.  Students will utilize their five senses to create extraordinary sentences and dynamic paragraphs.  Delectable treats and hands-on materials will stir the imagination.
  • Class Title:  Automotive Engineering – Past, Present, and Future
    • Instructor:   Eric Buchen                                                
    • Class Day:   Friday
    • Time:          3:00 – 4:00 pm                                          
    • Location:    Music Room
    • Description: Students will explore the inner workings of the modern automobile by diagnosing simple problems and providing possible solutions, while taking a look back at automotive history. We will also explore the use of alternative fuels and the examine the technological and societal issues around “green” technologies
