In Quarter 2 we will begin our first novel unit, Walk Two Moons, by Sharon Creech. Our activities will be centered around the essential question, “How can understanding someone’s history or experience change the way you perceive them and their actions?” Besides reading the novel, we will also read nonfiction texts and poetry that tie into the the novel’s central theme. Our culminating activities for the Walk Two Moons unit will include a film comparison essay and a choice menu project.
In Quarter 2, my Honors classes will begin our first novel unit, The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd. Our activities will be centered around the essential questions, “What qualities or characteristics do individuals possess that allow them to challenge injustice?” and “How can we play a role in building communities that are inclusive and just?”. Besides reading the novel, we will also read nonfiction texts and create poetry that tie into the the novel’s central theme. Our culminating activities for the unit will include a reflective essay and a scrapbook project. Honors students will also complete an outside reading project of their choice, due January 12th.
