Honors and Math Placement
ELA/SS Honors 7 & 8:
Thank you for your interest in participating in ELA/SS Honors program. RBUSD does not offer 6th grade ELA/SS Honors courses in order to support students' transition from 5th grade to 6th grade.
Sixth and seventh grade students who possess 3 A's by the end of quarter 3 will participate in a diagnostic exam in spring. Students who do not qualify with 3 A's will have the opportunity to opt-in to the exam. Notification will be posted via Principal E-Blast at that time.
The honors exam will take place on June 5 & 6, 2018. Students will take the exam during their PE class in the Library. Students will have one block period to complete the exam.
Students who pass the diagnostic exam with 80% or better will be scheduled to participate in Honors ELA/SS. They must take both courses to participate. Students that score below 80% on the Honors exam and would still like to participate may opt-in. Notification will be sent home with scores and the opt-in policy via letter during the summer.
Fifth grade students will participate in the CAASPP math test in the spring and receive score notice during summer. Students who exceed standard or better will be placed in Compacted Math 6/7. If your student does not exceed standard and you wish your child to participate in compacted math, please contact via email assistant principal, Brianne Nakayama, after they have received their diagnostic score. Students may not opt into Compacted Math after 6th grade because they would be missing a year's worth of curriculum.
If you have questions about the Honors/Compacted policies, please contact Brianne Nakayama at email@example.com.
